Zoe Storck- Patriotism means supporting your government during times of war.

Webster’s definition of patriotism is: “love of one’s own country”. Here in the United States, there are many pieces that make up our great nation. Along with a military fighting a war in Iraq, we also have a public education system, a judicial system, freedom of speech, and a myriad of other privileges that are not often found in other countries around the world. Honestly, I cannot say that I support the war in Iraq. However, I love this country and I support the government. According to the dictionary, I am a patriot.

Zoe, I agree with most of what you said, but take a look at your definition of patriotism. There is nothing in this definition about supporting the government. You could be against everything the government says, but as long as you have true intentions for the benefit of your country, you are a patriot.

Zoe, I agree with what you said. When your country is doing something wrong, you don't have to support it. But that doesn't mean that you don't love your country.

Oh yeah sorry Jonathon, when I stated that I supported the government I was referring to the prompt about "supporting your government during times of war". Also what I meant by saying that I support the government was that while I may not support this particular administration that is currently in control of the government, I support the freedoms that we are mostly allowed by the governmental system that we have in place. Just to clear things up.

7. Society would be safer if we had security cameras in public places to catch potential criminals.
Before we read 1984, I agreed that security cameras in order to catch criminals would help to keep our society safe. After finishing the book, my opinion remains the same. Security cameras in PUBLIC places are appropriate when attempting to stop crime. However, cameras inside private places would only lead to an extremely socialist society, like the one that appears in 1984. Telescreens in every place party members go only further deepens the party's control over everything.

Oops that last one was Zoe Storck doing my second prompt opinion.
