In response to 2. To assure our country’s freedom, the government should be able to spy on its citizens.A country's freedom is a direct result of its government. A government is a 'the form or system of rule by which a state, community, etc., is governed' [dictionary meaning]. Government is a popular sovereignty, created with its power residing in its citizens. The social contract between a government and its citizen ensures that the citizen's necessity is achieved by any means possible. The word 'spy' ideally means someone who follows one to obtain confidential information but the word also means to examine something closely or carefully. If government needs to examine its citizens to ensure their freedom, they should be allowed to do so. There is no violation in privacy when the government acquires certain knowledge for the benefit of a citizen or the greater population.

I agree that 'spying' is alright, as long as a warrant is obtained from some other department so that the government can only spy on people for good reason.

I agree it is not a violation of privacy if the government informs the people of the fact that they are intending to spy on them. However it is definitely not okay if the government does this without consent or if they are prying into private matters for the benefit of only one person.

I still agree with my original post but my response to statement 8: 'For an idea to exist, we must have words to express it', has changed and i agree and disagree with this statement instead of just disagreeing.

This statement in context of 1984 is true because in Oceania the Party demands everyone to speak in newspeak which is designed to suppress vocabulary limiting thought to stop revolutionary ideas against the Party. In Oceania, because of newspeak, to express an idea you must have the words to convey it but with the limited vocabulary words to express their ideas may not exist. In addition to newspeak the Party has thought police who monitor everyone's behaviors and actions which also restricts conveying an idea.

This statement in context of our current state, words are not needed to express an idea because forms of expressing an idea can be seen in art and emotions. Our freedom of speech allows the words to express an idea to exist.
