Alyson Mar - Part 3

"Society would be safer if we had security cameras in public places to catch potential criminals."

In very public places like the streets or malls, it'd be okay to put security cameras. People in public should be aware where they are and shouldn't be doing things they wouldn't do without knowing that. After reading the book, my opinion hasn't changed. But in public places, cameras would work because people like Winston were caught doing things against the government using spies and cameras.

It depends what the word "criminals" mean. To the Party, it means thinking on your own, having your own ideas, or also known as thoughtcrime. To have security cameras in public places like that, it would be terrible. If I were Winston, I would rather die than live. But this is from a person who has lived with a country filled with freedom and liberty.

And if there were security cameras everywhere, I would feel very insecure about myself. There would be less people going out in public.

Although having security cameras, or telescreens in 1984, violate the privacies of the public, it serves as a benefit and could potentially make a society safer by tracking what people do in the public. Having that evidence and proof makes it easier for the controlling group/government to catch the criminal. And, the real story would be depicted from the physical evidence acquired by the security camera having witnessed the entire situation. Therefore, I agree; I believe that the cameras could make catching criminals easier and allow our society to be evaded, but more importantly, safer.

I agree with what you are saying Alyson, security cameras in public places would make society safer. Crimes will be committed regardless of the cameras but more of them can aid in punsihing the criminal.

Cameras always bring up the question about the government using them as security or for means of spying on them but if the citizen commits no crime there should be no worry.

I agree with you that we need to cameras around the places to look out for criminals. Even though having cameras around, it is a bit frightened to do something that can cause one little mistake and to turn around and see a police getting ready to capture you. Like I said in my previous blog, I feel that the benefit for the cameras is to capture people who did abnormal actions that disrupt the society, not capture them because of who they are that the society dislike.
